Today we learned more about our digital graphs , we have been learning about storing our data into graphs for a while now. First we got given a sheet about the average rain in mm of New Zealand towns/cities , we put this data into a goggle sheet telling them the name of the place and how much mm it rained there. After putting all our data down we made a graph about it , we got to customise the colours, fonts and if we wanted it 3d or not. I loved diving deeper into our learning about graphs, this was really fun!
This was the graph I made. I got to chose the title and what the data was going to be about in this graph. I chose to see what my class Te Kahu wanted to travel to the most out of these places France, Australia, Greece, Dubai,Hawaii, Maldives and Italy. These places are some of the most visited/travelled to places in the world. I did have some challenges on the way One /of the things I found hard was finding out which graph would most suit this data, at the end I chose the pie graph this graph explained and showed my data the best!
Today we did mahi tahi! Mahi tahi is when we get paired into groups and get given an assignment to do. The assignment we got given today was we were going to build a structure out of marshmallows and spaghetti, and at the end we were going to shake the table like an earthquake to see if our marshmallow and spaghetti building was gonna fall.
Before this we were learning about the ancient Greeks buildings. We got told to read this book all about ancient Greek buildings, I learned in this book about how they made the buildings and how they were similar to our spine!! I also learnt that in Greek they have a lot of earthquakes, and how these hundreds of years old buildings are still standing till this day after all the earthquakes.
Me and my group had to think outside the box of how our marshmallow and spaghetti building could still be standing after the earthquake, me and my group had to use the 4 c’s communication, calibration, creativity and critical thinking. Me and my group talked about our ideas and what could work and which wouldn’t work.
Now we had to cross our fingers and hope that our building would last the earthquake, and… it did!! Our building held up to the earthquake , and only broke until it fell off the table . This was so fun and would definitely want to try again to make a taller tower!
This is my idea of what I think the 200 bank note should look like. When we were looking at the money notes we notice they all are coloured in different types of colour, and they all had a New Zealand bird on them, for my note I chose the fantail bird. Also what I notice is they all have a New Zealand person who is well known. For my person I chose Jean Batten, Jean Batten holds the title for the first woman to fly solo, she is a New Zealand citizen and is well known for being brave, she is an inspiration in many women’s lives including mine.
